How to Crochet The Cute and Easy Cluster V Stitch

What I love about crochet is that there are so many beautiful stitches you can learn. Just because a stitch looks beautiful doesn’t mean it’s complicated, like this cluster v stitch. It uses basic crochet stitches and works up very fast. There are 2 foundation rows and then a one row repeat, which makes the resulting fabric reversible. This stitch’s elegant and clean look is great for blankets, scarfs, and hats!

Materials

You can use any size yarn along with its recommended hook size. For this swatch, I used Dishie worsted weight yarn in the colorway Mulberry with a 5.5 mm hook. You will also need a pair of scissors and a yarn needle.

Abbreviations

This tutorial uses American crochet terms.

Special Stitches

Double crochet two together:

  3. Yarn over and insert your hook into the same stitch or chain space, yarn over and pull up a loop, you should have 4 loops on your hook.
  4. Yarn over and pull through 2 loops, you should have 3 loops on your hook.
  5. Yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on your hook.

How To Crochet The Cluster V Stitch

Chain a multiple of 3+2. To crochet this 5 inch swatch, chain 20.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd chain from hook and sc in every chain across. (19 sc)

Row 2: Chain 3, turn work, *skip 2 sc and cluster v stitch (dc2tog, chain 1, dc2tog) in 3rd sc*, repeat from *to* until there are 3 sc left, skip 2 sc and dc in the last stitch.

*Row 3: Chain 3, *work a cluster v stitch in the chain 1 space (crochet underneath the chain instead of into it) of the cluster v stitch below*, repeat from *to* in each chain 1 space across, then dc in the 3rd chain of the chain 3 below.

Repeat row 3 until your project is the length you desire. Then fasten off and weave in the ends.
